Welcome to Wanderlusters Sailing Club, the only non-profit teaching club on the Chesapeake Bay.
Wanderlusters is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of the sport of sailing through education, recreation and adventure! We strive to make sailing available to our members at the lowest reasonable cost.
Each spring the club conducts a sailing course for new members. The course consists of online reading material, a textbook, plus 15 hours of on-the-water training.
Complete club information can be found in the Club Handbook.
All new members pay an initiation fee of $315.00 which includes 1st year membership plus 15 hours of on-the-water sailing instruction. Additional family members can join at the same time at half price.
Active members pay $60 in annual dues plus $10 new boat fund. Active members can coordinate with club captains to charter cruises, improve their sailing skills, and eventually pass the Captain qualifying exam.
Members who pass a boat handling and qualification exam may choose to accept captain status. Club captains sail the club boats with crew and have the responsibility of collecting and reporting fees for their cruises, as well as handling other responsibilities such as boat maintenance and participation in training and mentoring. Each captain must pay a refundable equity deposit of $308.00. Captains also pay an additional $365.00 annually toward boat maintenance, as well as a mandatory $180 in prepaid sailing time.
Compare our fees with other sailing clubs on the Chesapeake; you will be surprised at how affordable we are!
We are a non-profit corporation registered in Maryland. We are completely member run. Members elect annually an executive board, which makes operating decisions. All positions in the club are volunteer positions with no compensation.
